A couple sheathes I made recently. For the potong sheath I tried to mimic the design elements on the original wooden sheath. It has a dual beltloop and a couple holes for attaching a paracord baldric strap.

I have had this British surplus golok for about 2 years. I knew I wanted to use it as a project blade. I decided to make a copy of my golok potong from Valiant. Just need to send it to a knifemaker friend who will give it a nice convex grind.

Shovel Sheath

Made up something to cover my Cold Steel shovel. I love these things. I had one for six years but left it in Utah when I moved to Colorado. I used some plumbers mesh to thin down the handle a bit, also drilled and counterbored a lanyard hole. I gave it a good Danish oil soak and waxed it as well.

I don't like the fact that CS is putting an edge all the way around these. I liked having the option of adding an edge myself. Although it can chop wood quite well it's a shovel first.

I made this cover to be strapped on a pack. I added a drainage hole and hot waxed it to keep the water off. The retention strap has eyelets and tightens down with some paracord. It's not sewn to the beltloop so it can be replaced or removed. It's made of 10-12 ounce saddle skirting and is saddle stitched with waxed braided nylon cord.

Just a couple recent sheathes. First is a stout baldric carry rig for a golok by Bruce Culberson. This one is 10-12 ounce saddle skirting with dual welts. Fit is very tight and the massive blade doesn't budge while inverted and shook.

Next up is a necker sheath for a Darrel Aune striker knife. It has an elm leaf decoration.

And something different. A 1" rifle sling I made up for my H&R Pardner single shot 20 gauge. Also a shotshell holder I made to go with it.

I made this sheath for a David Farmer knife. The customer wanted a "vine" pattern so I did a leaf beltloop and made some vine/leaf designs on it. It isn't really carved...I used a freehand groover to make the design and used a modeling spoon to add depth and texture.

The original osage scales on this knife were held on with bolts. I decided to rehandle it and give it some black liners and a mosaic pin.

The pouch sheath has stylus texturing.

Breeden Pathfinder and sheath

I got this blade from Bryan Breeden of Breeden knives to put my own handle on. The handle is zebrawood with brass pins and black liners.

The sheath has a firesteel loop. To finish it off I gace the knife a paracord lanyard with a zebrawood bead to hold it secure. The wood has a lot of chatoyance and changes color when viewed from different angles.

Lined and ulilitarian sheathes for David Fowler knife

I made the lined sheath first but it was too pretty for using while backpacking. I wanted something durable,water resistant and with multiple carry options.

The lined sheath is lined with doe skin. It has a leaf belt loop and the fit is excellent. I don't think you can beat the fit of a lined sheath.

The second sheath has a strap for horizontal carry in addition to a vertical carry loop with a square ring on top for attaching to a backpack. There is also a hole in the bottom for attaching paracord. The sheath has been waxed for weather resistance.

As my work has progressed I have gone through several stages. My first sheathes taught me a lot. The next batch involved a lot of experimentation. I now am finding it easier to get the results I want the first time.

This is a quickdraw rig for a Becker.

My first stock removal blade

I cut out and profiled this knife from 1/8" 1095 stock. I ground the blade myself and sent it to David Farmer who heat treated the blade for me. The scales are walnut with brass pins.

Davis and I are currently working on a collaboration project with a slightly modified version of this blade. All blades will be done by David and will feature his wicked sharp convex edge. I will be doing the handles and sheathes.

Another Nessmuk

This one is another made to order knife. Curly maple handle with red liners. I also made a firesteel with birdseye maple and a sheath. The sheath is set up for vertical and horizontal carry. I wasn't able to do the beltloop like I wanted but it turned out all right. I'd do it differently next time.

Mushroom Knife

This is a little mushroom knife I made for my sister. The handle is chakte. I made the brushes from squirrel tail. The sheath is made to be worn across the shoulder or around the neck. I wanted it to have a very organic look to it.

Nessmuk Sheath

This knife was made by Seved Hjelm from Sweden. The blade was forged from O1 steel and then ground and finished by Seved. The handle is masur birch which is traditional scandinavian wood for knife handles. I wanted a sheath that had a firesteel loop so I made this one.

Himalayan Imports BDC rehandle

Roundtable Knife

I made this knife for a roundtable at Ramanon.com. Basically everyone that is interested signs up and then names are put in random order. Everyone sends a knife to the person below them on the list. The knife I got was a beautiful puukko with leopardwood scales.

This is the knife I made. The guy I made it for loves wharncliffes so I made this one out of a little J Russell patch blade. It has an osage orange handle with a bamboo pin and brass lanyard hole. He made the sheath for it once he got it.

I also sent him the wharnie I made out of the Herders blade. I gave him the option of which one he would keep. He liked both so we worked out a trade.

Curly Hickory Belt Blade.

Did this one for a guy that does Civil War reenactments and cowboy shooting. I think it will go well with his get up. Blade was etched with ferric chloride to give it an aged look.

It has black liners, bamboo pins and a brass lanyard tube.

An assortment of past projects

This is a little drop point I did. The handle is stabilized maple burl. It has hidden bamboo pins.

This is the Nesserator and another small drop point. The Nesserator was an old cleaver that I made into a huge Nessmuk. It works more like a small axe than a knife. The handle is curly walnut with brass pins and red and black spacers. The drop point is birdseye maple with a strip of bocote, brass pins and red liners.

This is a Cold Steel Khukhri that I rehandled with zebrawood. It has walnut trim with red liners.

A couple other knives. A wharncliffe I made out of a Herders "mini cleaver" and a SAK. The wharnie has curly walnut handles and the SAK is cocobolo.

My First Knife Project

This is a Fallkniven S1 I got that originally had a rubbery handle. I didn't like the rubber so I cut it off and rehandled it with dyed and stabilized maple.

Originally I had planned on using these scales for an F1 blank that I bought at the same time. I was so dissatisfied with the rubber I started replacing it immediately. Since it wasn't a full tang blade I had to mortise the scales on this one. Since this was my first project I used galvanized nails for pins and some sort of aluminum spacer for the lanyard hole.

I got some different scales for the F1 but I haven't finished it yet. I want to use mosaic pins but they are expensive and I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I had a custom sheath made for it. It is a horizontal carry that has a Sam Browne stud closure.

After I got the knife back with the sheath I had more tools and experience so I refinished the handle. I'll post some new pictures here soon.

Rehandled Becker Campanion

I rehandled this Becker Campanion with Bocote, black liners and brass pins. I stripped the coating off the blade and gave it a satin finish.

The wood handles give the knife much more character and life. I also rounded the end of the tang on this one.

The first two are walnut and zebrawood respectively. Both are made with J Russell high carbon blades. The walnut handled knife has brass pins with black liners. The zebrawood knife has bamboo pins and red liners.

The next knives are Nessmuk style knives made out of reprofiled skinner blades. They are both osage orange. One has brass pins the other has bamboo pins and black liners.

The last knife is more of a Grohmann clone. The owner of this knife wanted a knife with more of a point. The handle is bocote with black liners and bamboo pins.

I fit all of these knives with a lanyard that has a bead made of the same wood as the handle.

My Workshed

This is the inside of my little workshed. I have a 1 X 30 belt sander, a bench grinder and an assortment of handtools. I now do most of my handle work with files and sandpaper. The one thing I really need is a drill press.

Well I plan on posting pictures of my past and current projects as well as some of my collection. I'll just post this picture for now. One of my favorites. A Himalayan Imports 22" Dui Chirra from my collection.

This is a beautiful representation of the Nepalese knife. It comes with six antler handled tools. A karda, chakma, saw, tweezers, buttonhook and an awl. The sheath holds the tools and has a larger opening that holds a small pouch for storing tinder and other supplies. You could call it a Nepalese survival knife.
